Upon reading the opening words: "I ought be numbered amongst the forgers and the slayers", David fears his father has committed a terrible crime.

The manuscript reveals the crisis that engulfed his parents, Olof and Martina, in the summer of 1987, when a stranger appeared, claiming to be Olof's son. David recalls his own life at that time: a young man harboring dreams of becoming an author while working as a crime reporter, where he had a chance, chilling encounter with the notorious "Bomb Man." Both the Bomb Man and David's mother, Martina, grapple with deep feelings of betrayal, their destinies woven together in unsettling ways.

Intrusion delves into the devastating fallout of great betrayals - both for the betrayed and the betrayer. It is a deeply moving story and, to date, David Lagercrantz’s most personal work.

It is also the true story that inspired From the Depths I Cry, the fourth installment in Lagercrantz’s crime series featuring Rekke and Vargas. While the novel is a work of fiction - a wild reimagining of reality - it explores the same themes: how betrayal and lies can shatter a life, whether one is a betrayed wife or a vindictive, imprisoned psychopath.
